Saturday 3rd January - John O'Goats Orienteering - Lyme Park

Five intrepid D and E group harriers spent a fun filled hour ankle deep in bog and mud to complete our first MDOC orienteering challenge. This was an all ability trail and the organisers were helpful in suggesting which group would suit us best. We decided to go for the short course 6.1km (although we did just over 5 miles with lots of detours!!). You can choose to omit up to 4 controls depending on age and ability.

After being issued the map at the start and initiating the dibber (device that records the number of controls found), we were off. Kate decided to go alone, but Catherine and I and Georgina and Rippon paired up in teams. The weather was pretty abysmal but it didn't dampen our determination to find all controls. Some were frustratingly well hidden!!

We certainly didn't break any records but thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend if any further events come up in the future.
